What is Knowledge Panel and Knowledge Graph

Whenever you Google any entity (person, organization or places), you will find individual boxes in Google search results. The boxes are knowledge panel. These panels help you quickly understand the subject and key facts around the entity. But how do these data come from? It comes from Knowledge Graphs, an encyclopedia of facts.

What is knowledge panel

You can find the Knowledge panel on the right side of your screen if you are using the desktop. If you are using mobile phones, then it will be at the top of your search results.

It includes:

  • Title of the topic
  • A description of the topic
  • An image of the person, place, or thing.
  • Key information around that
  • Links to social media profiles and official website urls

Sometimes it shows special information about the topic like –

  • Songs from Singers
  • Upcoming episodes from TV series
  • Rosters of sports teams.

Knowledge Panel in Mobile results

In desktop, you see all details in the knowledge panel on the right side of the results because the screen is large but, on mobile, it is not possible to show everything alongside the results because of the screen size. So you can see many knowledge panels on your mobile screen as you scroll down the results.

You can see in the below screenshot. It is showing multiple panels, Listen box, About box, Songs of Enrique Iglesias.

What is knowledge graph

Knowledge graph is the database of billions of facts about people, places, and things. It is a system that takes facts and information from data shared across the web, open-source and licensed databases. Knowledge panel comes from the Knowledge Graph. It was launched in 2012.
Also, it takes data from Wikipedia and other licensing data to appear in knowledge panels for music, sports, and TV.

Feedback for knowledge graph

As I mentioned above that knowledge graph gathers informations from various sources so there may be inaccuracies as well so you can report these issues in knowledge graph also.
You can click on the feedback link at the bottom of the knowledge panel in desktop results or in mobile you can touch three dots and give feedback and report inaccuracy.

Claim Knowledge Panel

You can claim it also. Just click on the “claim this knowledge panel,” and you will have to verify your identity later on. You can claim the knowledge panel of a person or company.
